Daffodil Break March 2012
1SW launches interactive cycle map!
Great news for our cycling guests! The Adventure Cycle Interactive Map has just been launched on 21 October by 1 South West Cycling Project and South West Protected Landscapes. It’s an on-line map of the south west’s cycling trails, including Dartmoor and Exmoor National Parks and the Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB). And because it’s interactive, you’ll be able to find information about each trail, eg if it’s prone to erosion in wet ground conditions or when it’s at its busiest.
Plus the map will list bike shops, hire outlets and clubs. Coming soon will be information on cycle-friendly accommodation, so of course you’ll see our details there too! Especially as our newly built cycle cabin will be available then too, which will contain a drying room along with washing and secure storage facilities for your bikes.
Click here to visit the Adventure Cycle Interactive Map and remember to come back to our blog soon as we are arranging some very special offers for cycling breaks in 2012!
Our extension works are underway!
The works on our extension got underway last Monday and they’re making rapid progress! Working carefully around our very precious chestnut tree, the foundations for the Reeds Restaurant extension are taking shape already.
The main ground works are at the side of the hotel so we are able to stay open as usual until Sunday 20th November, when we will close for a week as the extension gets ‘knocked through’ to the main building and we finish off the landscaping to our car park and grounds.
We’re Expanding!
It’s exciting times here at Swallows Eaves Hotel! This coming Monday (3rd October) work starts on our extension for Reeds Restaurant. Plus during our usual winter shut-down for the hotel at the start of 2012, our refurbishment fairies will be coming in to give our guest rooms a complete makeover. We’ll be posting pictures and updates on Twitter and here in our blog so you can watch the transformations too!
Dates for your diary!
From Monday 3rd October to Sunday 20th November we are open as usual in the hotel and restaurant as the works will be external and won’t affect any parts of the interior. The works will take place during the daytime Monday to Saturday finishing at 17.30 hrs. However, as you might imagine, we cannot guarantee our usual levels of peace and quiet during the day whilst these works are under way.
Then for the last week of November (21st to 27th), we will shut the hotel and restaurant temporarily whilst the extension works are knocked through to the main building and parts of the grounds and car park are re-landscaped.
We open again on Monday 28th November when Reeds Restaurant will be open for our Christmas Menu and special offers!
Tour of Britain 2011 visits East Devon!
Our staff who are cycling fans had a bumper day yesterday as East Devon hosted the fifth stage of the 2011 Tour of Britain! Starting in Exeter – and to get an idea of the atmosphere in Cathedral Yard, have a look at this stunning 360° panorama from local photographer Peter Stephens – the tour wound its way around Dartmoor before doubling back on itself to Exmouth.
And what an exciting finish it was! HTC Highroad team mates Mark Renshaw and Mark Cavendish sprinted over the finishing line at Exmouth together after fighting their way over 180 kilometres from Exeter over Dartmoor to the seaside! Plus local Devon lad Jonathan Tiernan-Locke won the ‘King of the Mountains’ jersey for his efforts over the tors of Dartmoor! (And in an exciting update, Mark Cavendish went on to win the Rainbow Jersey as the Road Race World Champion on 25th September 2011 in Denmark – making him Britain’s first male world road race champion for 46 years!).
September was a bumper month for international sports and cultural events taking place in Devon – from the Tour of Britain to the America’s Cup in Plymouth and the Agatha Christie Week in Torquay. And there’ll be more to come in 2012! Here at the hotel we’re looking forward in 2012 to welcoming all our cycling guests with our newly built cycle cabin, where you’ll be able to clean and store your bikes safely and securely overnight whilst enjoying our hospitality. We’ll also be arranging some special offers for cycling breaks in 2012, so come back often to see what’s on offer!
Tour of Britain Update! The dates of the Tour of Britain 2012 have just been announced (13th October) so get the dates of 9th to 16th September 2012 in your diaries now! And of course we’ll be posting details of the stages on our blog as soon as they are announced in the New Year!
Spring is definitely here!
We’re celebrating the arrival of spring and the wonderful weather is has brought to East Devon by having some special pictures taken of the wisteria that surrounds the hotel. If you don’t get the chance to see it in person, here’s some lovely photographs to show you our glorious flowers at their best!
